CyberKnife : UNDERGO SURGERY WITHOUT GOING UNDER THE KNIFE

A surgery that does not involve incision. This ground breaking technology is now a reality and goes by the name of ‘Cyber Knife’. CyberKnife is the world’s first non-invasive whole-body, Robotic Radio-surgery system. It is designed to treat tumors anywhere in the body with pin – point accuracy. This latest technology has been in a trail phase for some time now, but has recently surfaced across the world as one of the best procedures to treat tumors and cancers in a no-invasive way.
In a nutshell, Cyberknife is a device that corrects, reduces and even eradicates tumor cells in human body through a radiation beam without one having to go under the knife at all. CyberKnife uses pencil beams of radiation which can be directed at any part of the body from any direction via a robotic arm. The robotic arm tracks the tumor’s position, detects any movement of the tumor or patient, and automatically corrects its positioning before targeting the tumor with multiple beams of high-energy radiation. It destroys abnormal tissue without damaging surrounding areas of tumor. The two main elements of the CyberKnife are the radiation produced from a small linear particle accelerator and a robotic arm which allows the energy to be directed at any part of the body from any direction.
The treatment is so accurate that it’s now possible to treat tumors previously thought to be inoperable. It is one of a kind device that owes its credibility and success to technological amendments such as image guidance software to track and continually adjust treatment for any patient or tumor movement, no need for head-frames that screw into patient’s skull in order to avoid movement and an unlimited scope in terms of being able to treat numerous types of tumors of human body including the prostate, lung, brain, spine, liver, pancreas, and kidney.
This procedure has now been widely accepted, even though many patients show resistant to it. But it is definitely a viable solution for terminal cases as it gives a hope for prolonged life. Such use of computer and robotics has resulted in a system that can transform the way tumors and even cancer cells are treated, without affecting other body functions severely.
